About

“Barbara Forever” is a documentary about queer cinema pioneer Barbara Hammer (1939–2019), who started making films at 27 and came out as a lesbian in her early thirties. Brydie O’Connor’s feature debut draws on the sheer abundance of film material from Hammer’s life to portray a trailblazer of lesbian-queer self-representation “in a world where we are invisible”, a seductive lover and an experimental, risk-taking filmmaker. Along her films such as Dyketactics, Audience and Nitrate Kisses, first-time-seen archival material, her narrative voice and her life partner Florrie Burke, mortality itself is queered. The film won the Teddy Award for Best Documentary Film at the Berlinale 2026.
