Die Totenschmecker
Zeughauskino, Unter den Linden 2, 10117 Berlin, Mitte
About
An exploitation film by Ernst Ritter von Theumer about a mountain farm where hell breaks loose when a young Romni is killed by a mentally impaired son of the farming family. Theumer, otherwise known mainly as a producer of innocent entertainment films, reportedly swings the rusty sabre of exploitation cinema with abandon. The film is said to be enlightened and boorish at once, and possibly enlightened precisely in its boorishness. Starring William Berger and Herb Andress.

Critics praise the film's relentless reckoning with the pastoral genre, its shabbiness underscoring the horror. They fault crude, mediocre execution, lurid sensationalism and stretches of tedium.
