About
"Erinnerung eines Mädchens" is a theatre piece at the Schaubühne, staged as an intense monologue. It is based on Annie Ernaux's looking back at the summer of 1958, when 17-year-old Annie works as a counsellor at a holiday home on the French north coast: a violent first sexual encounter, mockery and humiliation, which she only recognises decades later, while writing, as experiences of sexual and verbal violence. Sarah Kohm directs, with Veronika Bachfischer on stage; the piece explores the link between female desire and the patriarchal subordination of women's bodies. The author Ernaux was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2022.
