About
The exhibition "Freunde der Kunst Ostasiens" marks the founding of the Gesellschaft für Ostasiatische Kunst 100 years ago as the first museum friends' association of the East Asian art collection. It presents works from the Museum für Asiatische Kunst's own collection and above all long-term loans from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Ostasiatische Kunst, including an installation of 108 ceramic bowls by Young-Jae Lee and a fragment of an 18th-century Japanese Buddhist hanging scroll. Gifts from members, such as Japanese woodblock prints, and publications on the friends' association's history are also on display. The presentation honours civic engagement and patronage for East Asian art in Berlin.
