Mata Leão is a dance performance and world premiere as part of The School of Self-Defense. Behind the piece are choreographers Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira, who, together with six performers, expand their choreography of self-defense developed since 2018. It asks how choreography can become a form of self-defense and confronts racist violence beyond fear or melancholy. Elements from funk and ballroom, humor and mockery open a poetic space in which body and imagination are negotiated.
