Punku

"Punku" is a film by J.D. Fernández Molero from Peru and Spain. It tells of Meshia, a young Matsigenka who finds the vanished Iván by a river in the Peruvian jungle and brings him to a hospital in Quillabamba, while her life moves between beauty contests and uncertain prospects and Iván is haunted by visions. The film weaves hand-developed Super 8 and 16mm material with digital video, TikTok reels and stop-motion animation, moving between the everyday and the supernatural. The title means "bull" or "gateway" in Quechua and points to transitions between indigenous cultures and contemporary media, memory and hallucination.
