Songhoy Blues play live at Gretchen: a rock band from northern Mali reimagining the “desert blues” that made them internationally known. With their fourth album, “Héritage”, they honour great musicians of past generations and weave striking guitars, rock rhythms and socially critical lyrics with traditional sounds of Mali. The four members have lived in Bamako for over ten years because they cannot safely return to their home region. The band became known in 2013 for an energetic style described as “Timbuktu-punk”.
