About
umbenennen?! is an exhibition about the stories behind Berlin's street names and the reasons why they have been changed. It is a joint exhibition project of the Arbeitskreis der Berliner Regionalmuseen. The regional section on Marzahn-Hellersdorf covers renamings after the villages were incorporated into Greater Berlin in 1920, ideologically loaded names from the Nazi era and the GDR, and the many new names that came with the large housing estates built in the 1970s and 1980s, alongside present-day debates. It invites visitors to find out how streets get their names and which stories, ideas and values stand behind them.
