About

"Light Trees" is a poetic, multisensory performance set in a world of creatures and light, where violence drains the land of its color and radiance. The piece is performed by two Deaf artists in German Sign Language, poetic sign, and Visual Vernacular, accompanied by moving lights and music with lyrics in spoken English, sometimes with vibrations that Deaf audiences can physically feel. Triggered by the Japanese government's efforts to revise and erase the history of WWII sexual slavery, it metaphorically depicts this process of injustice. It is presented as a relaxed performance and contains content about sexual violence; a fog machine will be used.
