About
“Geschichte(n) Tansanias” is a special exhibition showing the centuries-long entanglements of present-day Tanzania through cultural belongings, texts and film, with a particular focus on colonial oppression and exploitation. It was developed by the National Museum of Tanzania, the Ethnologisches Museum and the Central Archive of the Staatliche Museen Berlin – Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz together with the Stiftung Humboldt Forum im Berliner Schloss. Curators from Dar es Salaam, Songea and Berlin and representatives of communities in Tanzania speak in texts and filmed interviews, alongside works by East African artists and a school short-film project carried out in Berlin and Dar es Salaam. The exhibition is planned to be shown at the National Museum of Tanzania after its Berlin run, with preparations made for a permanent restitution of the cultural belongings.
