About
„Rosa L.“ is a stage premiere at the Kammerspiele that tells the life of Rosa Luxemburg. The Croatia-based director Anica Tomić adapts Margarethe von Trotta's film and Kate Evans's graphic novel for the stage, together with the author Jelena Kovačić. The piece traces Luxemburg – from her birth in 1871 in the south-east of present-day Poland and her studies in Switzerland to her role as a charismatic Berlin figure, militant politician, revolutionary socialist and Marxist theorist, whose work ended with her murder in 1919. Tomić asks how Rosa Luxemburg can be read and thought today, in a time of militarisation justified by talk of crisis and security, rising nationalism in Europe, fear as a political instrument and war becoming imaginable again.
