About

"All My Sisters" is a documentary about three girls in Iran. Over 18 years, director Massoud Bakhshi filmed his three nieces Mahya, Zahra and Maleka in Tehran, and now plays them the recordings from their childhood and youth while capturing their reactions. Under the strictures of their strictly religious grandmother and state propaganda, the growing young women develop care for one another, resilience and impressive unbending spirit. The footage always focuses on the girls, while adults are heard only as off-screen voices.

Critics

Critics praise the bold long-term approach, the sisters' self-confidence, and an image style that makes censorship visible. They fault an at times challenging, austere visual style that demands patience from viewers.
