Frank & Louis

About
Frank & Louis is a prison drama about guilt, hope and dignity. Director Petra Volpe, who previously made HELDIN, created it as her first English-language film. Frank, serving a life sentence, takes on a prison job caring for older inmates with Alzheimer's and dementia. What begins as a self-interested attempt to earn parole turns into a deep, life-changing bond with his fellow prisoner Louis.

Critics
Praised are the tender, compassionate handling of a neglected subject, the honest emotional depth and the striking visual choices within a confined setting. Little is faulted; the film occasionally leans heavily on provoking emotion.
