About
Giselle is a ballet evening at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden and counts as one of the masterpieces of the romantic ballet repertoire. The choreography and staging are by Patrice Bart, whose version closely follows the original choreography by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot and premiered at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden in 2000. At its centre is the farm girl Giselle, who loves dancing and falls in love with the nobleman Albrecht, who hides his origins and is already promised to another. When Giselle learns the truth, she dies of a broken heart and becomes one of the Wilis, ghostly brides, joining a nocturnal community – a story of love, betrayal and the longing for forgiveness.
