About
“Jewgeni Onegin” is an opera – “lyric scenes in three acts” by Pyotr Tchaikovsky – performed by the Komische Oper Berlin in the Great Hall of the Schillertheater. It is directed by Barrie Kosky, who stages the melancholy drama of the soul in overwhelming and richly detailed images of nature. It tells of four young people: the poet Lenski brings his mysterious friend Jewgeni Onegin, who harshly rejects the lovesick Tatjana, later kills Lenski in a duel, and years later is refused by the now-married Tatjana. With this work Tchaikovsky achieved his breakthrough as an opera composer.
